Paranaque City Guide

Introducing Parañaque City

Overview

Parañaque, formally the City of Parañaque, is a first-class, busy city in the National Capital Region. It has a population of 689,992 citizens, according to the 2020 census.

PAGCOR Entertainment City, a gaming and entertainment complex under development by the state-owned Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, spans an area of 8 km2 (3.1 sq mi) in Bay City and is home to four large integrated resorts, including Solaire Resort & Casino, City of Dreams Manila, Okada Manila, and the soon-to-be-completed Westside City Resorts World. It also has the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange public transportation system and the Aseana City business sector, including the Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

Parañaque is a warm, kind, accommodating, and dedicated Filipino community. It also acts as a second home for several foreign nationals who have fallen in love with the city and its residents. People from all around the country have moved to the city to reside.

Short History

Parañaque had a thriving industry even before the Spaniards arrived. Because of their proximity to the sea, they were able to deal with other Asian traders, including the Japanese, Chinese, Indians, Indonesians, and Malays. Salts, fish, rice, shoes, and slippers were among the traded items.

The Augustinian Missionaries officially founded Parañaque in the year 1572. An Augustinian Missionary named Fr. Diego de Espiar was assigned as the local priest and constructed a mission house there. A council called the Council of the Definitors was convened on May 11, 1580, which declared Palanyag, as Parañaque was then known, to be an independent town.

The Redemptorist Church, commonly known as Baclaran Church, is a notable national shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help along Roxas Boulevard in Baclaran, Parañaque.

The icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help is kept in the church. It is one of the Philippines’ largest Marian churches. Filipino Catholics have an intense devotion to Our Mother of Perpetual Help, which has resulted in masses of devotees flocking to the church every Wednesday to attend Mass and pray the Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Wednesdays in Manila are known as “Baclaran Day” because of the heavy traffic caused by visitors visiting the shrine.
